Auto Parts Import Tariffs & HS Codes: Importer Guide (2026)

HS codes, tariff rates, and customs for importing auto parts from China to US, EU, Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Updated for 2026.

By AutoPartsAlive Team·

Importing auto parts from China involves tariff classifications, duty rates, and customs procedures that vary by destination. Getting the HS code wrong means excess duties or delays.

HS Code Classification

Auto parts fall under Chapter 87 (vehicles/parts), Chapter 84 (machinery/pumps), Chapter 85 (electrical), and Chapter 40 (rubber). Brake pads classify under HS 6813.20 or 8708.30. Filters under 8421.23 or 8421.31. Correct classification matters — duty rates differ significantly.

US Import Duties

MFN rates: brake pads 2.5%, oil filters 0%, ignition coils 2.4%, shock absorbers 2%. Section 301 adds 25% on Chinese goods — a brake pad with 2.5% MFN effectively carries 27.5% total from China.

EU Import Duties

Brake pads 4.7%, filters 1.7%, ignition 2.7%, suspension 3%. No China-specific additional tariffs equivalent to Section 301, making total rates significantly lower than US.

Landed Cost Formula

Total = FOB + freight + insurance + duties + port handling + inland delivery. For a 20ft container Ningbo to LA: FOB ~$15,000, freight ~$2,500, duties at 27.5% = ~$4,125, port/delivery ~$1,500. Total ~$23,325 or 55% above FOB.
